Hey! My name is Leah and I’m the landlady of the Heworth Inn. I’ve been in the hospitality business for over 20yrs, I was raised in a pub and now proudly run my own.
I worked in restaurants for 7 years to which I won an all expenses paid trip to Ibiza for outstanding customer service along with other awards (not to blow my own trumpet). I also have previously been a weddings and events manager, which I must admit is a very fore filling but a scary job at the same time. I thrive off meeting new people and welcoming new and old customers to the pub. Having that warm family feel is important to me when people come to visit. There’s nothing better than having a lovely friendly chat with new and old faces.
I have two beautiful sons that pretty much fill all of my spare time when I’m not working. I love all kinds of music and generally having a good old chin wag.
Cyrus joined The Heworth Inn team in January 2019 as a sous chef, before taking over the reins later that same month.
Cyrus has a wide ranging hospitality background, having managed pubs, restaurants, worked as a sommelier and even a bouncer! In 2018, Cyrus was a contestant in the inaugural series of Mary Berry’s ‘Britain’s Best Cook’, which set him on the path to cooking professionally. Following the show, he ran a number of charity restaurant pop-up evenings, completed a Sunday Lunch residency at a York gastropub and worked as a private chef. Originally from Leeds, Cyrus moved to York in 2009 for university, fell in love with the city and never left! He now lives in Fulford with his wife, dog and two cats.
Cyrus’ style of food is focussed on big flavours, generous portions and simple plates. A love of walking, foraging and the outdoors mean seasonal and traditional British ingredients feature heavily, and Cyrus has brought a number of small local suppliers on board.
Hi my name is Leon, I’ve not been in York long and just moved over from Hull. I went to several schools and also went to Hull College.
I’m currently studying at York College and really enjoying the course. In my spare time I like to game.
I enjoy working at The Heworth Inn because I like to meet all the new guests that come and stay with us and the customers that eat and drink here.
Its always good to meet different people, I value the local residents who attend the pub regularly and catch up with them when I have chance.
Hello I’m Harry! I’ve recently had the opportunity to join the team at the recently re branded ‘The Heworth inn’ I’m new to the city and stumbled across this lovely welcoming venue to work at. I require my work place to have a friendly atmosphere where I am able to work along side some genuine people who are passionate about their work, which is exactly what I found working at The Heworth inn.
I enjoy going to the gym as a hobby and not taking life to seriously. I love meeting new people, so don’t be afraid to say hello.
I have been doing this job for the last 3 years.
I fell into the job when I was at school which initially started as a weekend job. I have to admit I’m a little OCD and that’s why I love my job and very well suited to it.
A York native, Jim has over 17 years experience in the catering industry and has worked in restaurants and gastropubs throughout Yorkshire and beyond, bringing a wealth of experience to the kitchen team.
During his time at college, Jim received a distinction in vegetarian and vegan cuisine and has some fantastic vegan dishes in the pipeline for our diners! His great love, though, is the pastry section – so expect some fantastic, indulgent desserts!
A keen fisherman in his spare time, Jim now lives not far from The Heworth Inn with his partner.
